weighing in at just 155grams, the nikon 50mm f1.8d is one of the class-leaders in the lightweight section, providing exceptional sharpness and usability without adding much bulk at all to your gadget bag. thanks to its fast f1.8maximum aperture, this lens provides wonderfully shallow depths of field, if that is the look you are going for, assuring your model is sharp and detailed in the foreground and reducing the backgrounds to an attractive, non-distracting blur. you can also use this wide open aperture to keep shooting when the lighting conditions get a little dim and your standard zoom lens has well and truly called it a day.

the 50mm focal length is well-known as the go-to lens for many photographers for general purpose shooting, as well as finding some use as a specialist portraiture tool. on compatible aps-c cameras, the magnified focal length will be even more suitable for portrait-shooting. as the lens itself is lacking an af motor, you will need to be sure that your nikon dslr has one built-in before you take the plunge and purchase this handy, compact prime lens.
